At Buckeye Ridge, we believe connection can open doors that traditional environments sometimes cannot. Through guided, animal-assisted and nature-based experiences, we create welcoming opportunities for people to build confidence, strengthen relationships, develop meaningful skills, and reconnect with a sense of purpose.
Veterans
We serve veterans navigating service-related stress, trauma, physical injuries, disabilities, isolation, major life transitions, and loss of purpose. Our nature- and animal-assisted experiences offer a supportive, non-traditional environment for veterans who may feel disconnected from more clinical settings or are simply looking for another way to connect, engage, and move forward.
Individuals Impacted by Trauma or Disability
Our programs welcome adults and youth living with physical, cognitive, or developmental disabilities, as well as individuals impacted by trauma, adverse life experiences, and emotional or behavioral challenges.
Experiential, relationship-based programming provides another avenue for individuals who may benefit from learning, connecting, and growing outside of a traditional environment.
Children & Youth
For children and youth who may be vulnerable, at risk, or navigating difficult circumstances, connection with animals and nature can create meaningful opportunities to build trust, develop emotional awareness and coping skills, strengthen confidence, and discover a greater sense of purpose and belonging.
First Responders
We welcome firefighters, law enforcement professionals, EMS personnel, and other first responders who regularly carry the weight of high-stress and traumatic experiences.
Our programs provide opportunities to step outside of demanding environments and experience connection, reflection, and well-being in a peaceful, non-clinical setting.
Caregivers & Families
Healing and growth rarely happen in isolation. We also create opportunities for families of veterans, caregivers of individuals with disabilities, and parents and guardians of children receiving services to connect, participate, and feel supported.
Our Community
Our mission is strengthened by the community surrounding it. Volunteers, donors, grantmakers, schools, VA programs, healthcare providers, educators, social service organizations, and community partners all play an important role in helping us create meaningful experiences and expand access to those who can benefit from them.
And at the Heart of It All, Our Animals
Our rescued animals aren't simply part of the scenery. Within appropriately designed and professionally guided programming, they can become supportive participants in meaningful experiences and partners in activities centered around connection, trust, engagement, and relationship-building. Each animal arrives at Buckeye Ridge with a story of their own. Together, people and animals are given the space to connect, grow, and experience what a second chance can make possible.
